I remember the first time I saw a real TV set. Our first TV set (what you might now call Low-definition TV). It was a monster, took up half the room and was a portal into another world of perfect colour and incredible, super-realistic sound.

Sequels – Overrated

Does anyone remember the days when one highly entertaining, commercially successful, all-round awesome film could stand alone without being ruined by an underwhelming sequel? Well I do, and I miss it. Sure, the problem isn't completely pandemic yet - I don't think we'll be seeing The Hurt Locker 2: Remote Detonation Prevention Squad any time soon, but we've got to nip this problem in the bud before it gets completely out of hand. Avatar – Overrated

I know what I am about to say and I am ready for the backlash. I know that in the hearts and minds of people who adored Avatar, saying it is overrated – and thus inferring that it is not entirely worthy of the worldly accolades presently being bestowed upon it – is no different to chucking a baby down a flight of stairs. But still, that’s exactly what I’m calling it. It’s a truly mesmerizing film, yes, but maybe that’s the point: with all its production value and absurd mega-expense, how can you reasonably (and fairly) compare Avatar to other films…films which rely solely on acting and story for credibility? In short, you can’t. Avatar is in a league of its own, and should be treated as such. (more...)

Cougars

I once dug this boy a year younger and immediately I became jokingly synonymous with cradle snatchers, cougars and reverse gold diggers. It was amazing and still continues to boggle my mind as to why and how the ancient question “does age really matter?” continue to influence the hearts of many potential lovers. (more...)
