I was taking a stroll along the high street today on route to the nearest health food store, when I was bombarded by it. The most hideous piece of architecture I've had the displeasure of seeing in a long time. Okay, so I haven't been to Southend (Essex, UK) high street for a long, long time, maybe even a year, but oh my god, has everyone gone blind? Surely there must have been someone with a little more imagination to build the new campus for the university. Come on Southend, is this really all you could come up with? Fashionable “Track” Bikes

Last year, I started to notice quite a number of track bikes frequenting the city. You've probably seen the ones: funny handlebars, aerodynamic, weird looking wheels and of course, a single cog (no gears) and, on some, not even any breaks. I didn't really think that much of it at the time, but as a former cyclist, laughed at the impracticality of "corporate types" getting around the city on these fixed wheel designs. (more...)
