Hated by many, maligned by many more, mocked and frequently disregarded... Courtney Love must be one of the most underrated artists and cultural icons of modern times. That she IS a cultural icon is quite beyond doubt. In the early to mid nineties, her band's music was more powerful, more relevant, more influential and more potent than pretty much anything that the diminishing rock and indie genres have produced in the past decade. My Sleeping Karma

Status Update: June 14 2010 – 2010 FIFA World Cup. It was a freezing night sitting in the heart of Sydney and Australia’s best group of footballers were cruelly blitzkrieged by a bunch of ruthless German footballers/foot-soldiers. THE BASS PLAYER…

They're the most underrated and generally overlooked members of the band. To be honest, that's because lots of bass players really aren't that important to the music - they're just there to keep that necessary element of the rhythm going, almost imperceptibly, in the background. You wouldn't even notice the bass a lot of the time. And there's some really bad bass players whose incompetence is covered over by the rest of the band; Sid Vicious springs to mind. (more...)

Face To Face

The Brits have The Clash, the Septic Tanks have Iggy Pop, and Australia has The Angels. When discussions of underrated Rock acts of the past arise at SoUnderrated sweatshop, the prominent has to be The Angels. While never gaining the mass-appeal of fellow convicts, AC/DC, some may say that The Angels' are the best weapons of our rock arsenal. (more...)
