Matt Corby
Thursday, January 19th, 2012
From a young age Matt Corby knew that music was his calling, and he’s finally sharing himself with the world. At the age of 16 he made it to the finals of Australian Idol (2007), only to shy away from the world of publicity and focus on his craft. (more...)
F.L.O.W.
Wednesday, June 8th, 2011
Hmmm Twitter. Love it or hate it it occasionally throws you a few nuggets of gold that make the updates all worthwhile. When artists like F.L.O.W. put forward quality content when you shout out, you realise just how powerful this link is. This mixtape from the Queens performer entitled R.A.P. (Rhymes and Passion) is a sweet and snappy journey for the ears. (more...)

Kim Churchill
Monday, May 30th, 2011
My bellicose 'ol Scottish pal Phil loves three things: delivering strong opinions, Glasgow Celtic Football Club and his new expanded family. One such strong opinion is that Kim Churchill is the best thing coming out of Australia since Mark Viduka. If Blues/Roots is your flava, then read on and listen in. (more...)

University
Friday, January 21st, 2011
If you either stalk me very well, or are just a big fan of sounderrated.com, you’ll realise that I haven’t posted an article in quite a while. And while the majority of you may not care why that is, I’ll say that it is due to my commitments at my new university. That’s right, the U word. I said it. (more...)

Ian Kenny/Birds of Tokyo
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011
Dear Mr Kenny,
Over the course of my young life, I have witnessed some horrible events. For the past year or so, I have found it increasingly difficult to find Hunts Snack Packs (think Billy Madison). For your information, it seems that Woolworths is the best source of this delicious pudding. Back in 2006, I was forced to see Juventus unfairly slapped with demotion to Serie B after falsely being found guilty of match fixing. But the one of most brutal things my beautiful brown eyes have had to observe is you parade your foolishness on stage with Birds of Tokyo. It was almost as heartbreaking as seeing Dobby die. (more...)

New Technology
Friday, November 12th, 2010
I sit down at the café, ready to update my 3 followers as to what is underrated today but the computer most emphatically says NO. Unlike my Nintendo flip-screen Donkey Kong game of 1984, Internet tethering and wifi connections dropout more than phone lines to the far reaches of Nepal. (more...)

Bruce Campbell
Monday, May 9th, 2011
It was the early 90s. Dad had a cool moustache and saw it fit to buy us all pink and green shell-suits, Mum had paid a ridiculous amount of money for a fitness thing called a “Step” which was just the same as any other step like on any kind of stair-case, and me? I was going through the werewolf-like transformation of becoming a man. Maybe not emotionally, certainly not emotionally yet, but physically, and with very real special effects. I was changing into something much more threatening than what had been before, and it was around this both joyous and unsettling time that I discovered Bruce Campbell through the Evil Dead series. Bruce, I thought, You're a real man, why can't everyone be like you? (more...)
Pornography
Thursday, April 14th, 2011
There's been a lot of talk in the press recently about porn being a bad thing. Negative, damaging, hurtful – lots of words. No intelligent argument for and against, it's just the against part they're focussing on, as if the idea of masturbation is so abstract and fundamentally against the nature of beings with penises that only hardcore criminals would ever dream of doing it. It's degrading to women, they say. Young men are seeing it and it's affecting how they look at women, making them treat them badly. It'll only lead to violence, and that's saying nothing about the effect it has on highly-charged teenage boys who shouldn't be looking at this kind of thing. (more...)

Spare Muhl
Wednesday, April 6th, 2011
Sounderrated: “Spare muhl” (German for literally “spare rubbish”)
In Germany, the day before you move out of your apartment, you have two clear choices:
1) organise some really begrudging friends to help or hire and van and lug all your stuff with you to your next abode, or
2) the easy option: take some of your stuff with you and leave the rest behind on the pavement for passer-by to take home if they'd like to. (more...)

Batman Original TV Series
Monday, April 4th, 2011
In the dressing rooms in those first few moments before Adam West and Burt Ward would exit into the studio to begin filming the first of what would become one of my favourite TV series’ ever, the two men who would come to be known world-wide as crime-fighting duo Batman and Robin probably had no idea of where it would all lead: the merchandise, the cult comic gatherings, the films and all the hype. Understandable, really. If you've seen how tight those costumes are around the groin area then you'll know that it would have been hard to concentrate on anything other than walking and saying your lines. (more...)
